CELEBRATING JULY 4 AS CHRISTIANS

I am very glad for a whole bunch of reasons to be living in America.  And I am in awe of those brave soldiers who continue to serve us well…many making low incomes and receiving rather faint (if even that) praise.

But let’s remember that America, even at its best, is not the same as the kingdom of God.  All of us Christians need to maintain a “prophetic distance” from America in order to not only be honoring to the only rightful King, but to serve our country in ways she desperately needs.

Even worse than identifying our country with the Kingdom of God is identifying one political party within our country as its unique guardian of spiritual truth. Where did you get that picture, Dave?

    Hey Dave,

My father, age 87, was the president of the Young Republicans, in Detroit. He and my mom were big supporters of Goldwater. My father registered as an independent in his seventies. All Christians probably ought to be…though it would be a tough sell!

Can’t remember my combination of words on Google images, but something like “Church and American flag.”
