I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this, but I sure have thought it many times:
“You have an amazing confidence that your interpretation of an unclear teaching in Scripture is the correct one!”
I have painfully discovered that kooks are not the only ones with this confidence!
Correction: I can think of at least one person I’ve said this to!
I think part of the problem is that many Christians don’t even realize that they are interpreting Scripture. They feel that they are just reading it and understanding the “obvious” meaning.

There is no doubt that is the case. I’ve had many Christians say we just need to read the Bible and do what it says. But how do we know what it says? Ah, we must interpret and those interpretations are hardly flawless!
