WRITING FOR POSTERITY…EVERYONE CAN SO THEY SHOULD

The image is from Grant Horner’s Bible and it leads to a pleasant challenge for all of us.

How about writing in your Bible (and other places like journals) to leave a wonderful gift to your children, their children, and who knows whoever else!

Personally, I mark up four Bibles: two in English and two in Greek.  We have two sons so each will have somewhat of an idea of the things which struck me most.  I try to keep my penmanship fairly neat, but even when it is unclear what better gift could you give someone from your family?

My wife, Doreen, has a heavily marked up Bible, but because of smudges from the wrong kinds of writing instruments, some of the notes will only be known in eternity!

I was glad to see this post last year:

DIVORCE IS A BAD MULTIPLIER

It is easy for couples going through a divorce to be so focused on their own hurts that they fail to realize the massive ripple effect on others: children, families on both sides, and friends.

I wonder if those contemplating divorce could actually see the entire crowd of people who will be forever affected whether this might help slow down the breaking up of couples.  Only God knows.  The reality however remains.

Divorce does not just involve two people, but many other folks as well.

PASTOR HITS HOME RUN…FOR HIS FAMILY!

J.R. Vasser is the founding pastor of Apostles Church in New York City.  God has used J.R.’s leadership to be a blessing to many.

This past Sunday Vasser mentioned he was leaving Apostles.  Not because of immorality.  Not because of some other ministry.  Not because he is discouraged.

So why is Pastor Vasser leaving?  He is leaving for his family’s emotional and spiritual well-being.  Read his resignation letter and pray for more men like him!

YOUR FAMILY IS NOT YOUR HOBBY!

Below is a classic example of what I have seen on many résumés.  This particular one comes from a seminary professor, but I’ve seen a bunch on the résumés of pastors as well.  In the case below with our seminary friend, we can find solace that mowing the yard got nudged out by his interest in his family!

Our seminary professor at least uses the word “interest” rather than the more ghastly label of “hobby.”  Here is how he ordered his interests:

Interests: baseball, reading historical novels, psychology and faith, spending time with family, working in yard, traveling, guitar, movies.

What are your interests or hobbies?  Whatever they may be please delete family from your résumé if you have it listed there!
