Once it arrived, I immediately started to read.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Memoir: My Life, Loves, and Laughs\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"625\" height=\"550\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"clipboard-write\" style=\"max-width:100%\" src=\"https:\/\/read.amazon.com\/kp\/card?asin=B0FPXSHYVS\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes in lieu of a traditional book review, I will briefly list some of the things that I appreciated about a book. I am going to employ that approach here. I normally don\u2019t alliterate, but it kind of came together this time:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Heart-breaking:<\/em> The suicide of Garrett\u2019s mom and the difficulties of dealing with his father.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Heart-warming:<\/em> There are some wonderful people along the way that provide friendship and keep the author on a healthy trajectory.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Humorous:<\/em> This book contains some funny anecdotes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Heady opportunities:<\/em> Garrett had the opportunity to brief a president of the United States, teach at some stellar schools around the world, and write books with top-notch publishers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Humility:<\/em> Even with the former reality, the author demonstrates a humility, even a healthy self-effacing attitude.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Holy-Spirit nimbleness:<\/em> When Garrett found himself in some tough spots as a Christian, the Lord wonderfully provided him with the right words to say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Whether you have interest in the life of an academic or not, you will be blessed by reading this story of God\u2019s evident mercies and redemption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2016, I interviewed Professor Garrett Sheldon on his terrific book, The Philosophy of James Madison.
