{"id":7883,"date":"2018-06-02T12:32:50","date_gmt":"2018-06-02T17:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=7883"},"modified":"2018-06-02T12:32:50","modified_gmt":"2018-06-02T17:32:50","slug":"abraham-lincoln-and-ambition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=7883","title":{"rendered":"ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND AMBITION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fateful Lightning: A New History of the Civil War and Reconstruction\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"625\" height=\"550\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen style=\"max-width:100%\" src=\"https:\/\/read.amazon.com\/kp\/card?preview=inline&#038;linkCode=kpd&#038;ref_=k4w_oembed_k6cIsS1mwYhlms&#038;asin=0199843287&#038;tag=kpembed-20\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>I recently read Allen Guelzo\u2019s terrific new history of the Civil War, <em>Fateful Lightning<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guelzo describes how restless Lincoln was for more responsibility.\u00a0 Others around him, even early on with his law practice, commented on Lincoln\u2019s ambition.\u00a0 It was sobering to read of Lincoln\u2019s ambition in the 1850\u2019s for the next decade would obviously find him with more responsibility than he could ever imagine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are ambitious for more influence, that is not necessarily a bad thing.\u00a0 God hard-wired us for making a difference, but we must be ever so careful.\u00a0 Being ambitious for God\u2019s glory and kingdom is one thing.\u00a0 Being ambitious to \u201cmake a name for ourselves\u201d is no less sinister than those in Babel who wanted to do the same thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember God\u2019s words to Baruch, \u201cShould you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them.
