It was an extremely unusual thing for a scholar to do. \u201cShe doesn\u2019t let herself off \u2013 she\u2019s not one of those scholars who is building an unassailable monument of work to leave behind her,\u201d Woolf said. \u201cShe is quite happy to go back to her earlier self and say, \u2018Nah.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When I asked her if she would countenance taking Isis\u2019s ideology seriously, she said: \u201cThat\u2019s the wrong question. There is no argument that I won\u2019t take seriously. Thinking through how you look to your enemies is helpful. That doesn\u2019t mean that your ideology is wrong and theirs is right, but maybe you have to recognise that they have one \u2013 and that it may be logically coherent.
