{"id":7337,"date":"2017-09-23T00:37:29","date_gmt":"2017-09-23T05:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=7337"},"modified":"2017-09-22T20:42:13","modified_gmt":"2017-09-23T01:42:13","slug":"7337","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=7337","title":{"rendered":"RIGHT LEARNING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Professor Jonathan Pennington at Southern Seminary.\u00a0 This is part of the charge Jonathan gives to beginning Ph.D. students at Southern.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cKnowing well entails listening to trusted authorities and doing what they prescribe in order to see what they are showing you.\u201d (<em>Scripture\u2019s Knowing<\/em>, by Dru Johnson p.16)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There is much insight to be unpacked in this singular and salutary sentence:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It is possible to know lots of things but know them wrongly as opposed to knowing them well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Knowing entails <em>listening to another<\/em> \u2013 reminiscent of the Apostle James\u2019 reminder that we should be quick to listen, not quick to be teachers; we may also recall the popular adage many a parent has spoken to a verbose child \u2013 \u201cGod gave us two ears and one mouth; use them proportionally.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Knowing is a process of listening <em>to trusted authorities<\/em> \u2013 there are people who are above us in knowledge, experience, wisdom, position, and authority and only the fool spurns this.
