{"id":6237,"date":"2016-06-17T17:54:23","date_gmt":"2016-06-17T22:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=6237"},"modified":"2016-06-17T17:54:23","modified_gmt":"2016-06-17T22:54:23","slug":"dont-memorize-scripture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=6237","title":{"rendered":"DON&#8217;T MEMORIZE SCRIPTURE&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I am a big believer in memorizing Scripture.\u00a0 It is one discipline I&#8217;ve kept at for forty years now.\u00a0 I am deeply grateful for wonderful models who valued the importance early on of hiding Scripture in my heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So is my subject line a joke?\u00a0 Yes and no.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Many people tell me they just don&#8217;t have a good memory so memorizing Scripture is tortuous.\u00a0 To quote Bob Newhart, I tell them to &#8220;Stop it!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rather, meditate on Scripture.\u00a0 Keep chewing on it.\u00a0 Divide up the phrases.\u00a0 Mull over individual words.\u00a0 By doing so, you will begin to have passages memorized.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So don&#8217;t start out by trying to memorize.\u00a0 Meditate frequently.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But do review what you have memorized.\u00a0 Review is crucial.\u00a0 I know many people who have memorized even long passages only to lose it later on because they made no time for regular review.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a big believer in memorizing Scripture.\u00a0 It is one discipline I&#8217;ve kept at for forty years now.\u00a0 I am deeply grateful for wonderful models who valued the importance early on of hiding Scripture in my heart.
