{"id":5787,"date":"2015-10-13T00:00:05","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T05:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=5787"},"modified":"2015-10-11T11:54:43","modified_gmt":"2015-10-11T16:54:43","slug":"not-so-fast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.twocities.org\/?p=5787","title":{"rendered":"NOT SO FAST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>At both Dallas Theological Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School I heard the story of modern-day Evangelicalism.\u00a0 It was a movement which sought to break away from the anti-intellectualism and lack of cultural engagement of the hapless Fundamentalists. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The consistent impression was that the Evangelicals left the Fundamentalists for good. I&#8217;m no longer so sure of that narrative. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It seems there remains at least some Fundamentalist tendencies within much of Evangelicalism.\u00a0 I see it regularly in the lack of interest in the church&#8217;s history, and confidence, even hubris, over how one understands non primary doctrinal issues like the age of the earth.\u00a0 The pugnacious and polemical spirit which characterized modern-day Fundamentalism seems to still find safe haven in too many so-called Evangelical churches.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At both Dallas Theological Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School I heard the story of modern-day Evangelicalism.\u00a0 It was a movement which sought to break away from the anti-intellectualism and lack of cultural engagement of the hapless Fundamentalists.
